Establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Malta

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Malta were established on the 16 th February, 1993.

Since 2011 associated Embassies of the two countries have been operating on the territory of each other. The current Ambassador of Belarus to Italy, to Malta associated is Mr. Aleksandr Guryanov.

We have built a constructive cooperation between foreign offices of Malta and Belarus; the two Ministers have a regular contact on the fields of international organizations.

The embassies keep on doing their utmost in order to extend Belarus-Malta ties in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

In 2021 the trade turnover between Belarus and Malta amounted to 21.7 million US dollars, exports — 20.8 million US dollars (53,251.2% compared to 2020), imports — 896.4 thousand US dollars (101 %). The export of Belarusian services to Malta for the specified period amounted to 21,545.1 thousand dollars (185.6%) and was formed mainly due to computer, telecommunication and information services (14 631.3 thousand US dollars) and transport services (3 908.5 thousand US dollars). Imports of services amounted to 16 029.4 thousand US dollars (290% of the 2020 level). The balance of trade in services was positive for Belarus in the amount of 5 515.7 thousand dollars. In 2021, Maltese investments were attracted in the amount of $1.89 million US dollars (completely generated by direct investments); direct on a net basis amounted to 1 074.3 thousand US dollars.
